“Victim of Trading” is a modern painting that emerges from a concern about one of the most powerful illusions in contemporary economic life: the belief that wealth can be acquired instantly without the long process of struggle, learning, experience, discipline, and the ability to face failure. In this work, trading is not presented merely as a financial activity, but as a psychological space where hope, greed, fear, ambition, and the illusion of wealth collide.
In the artist’s interpretation, the issue is not simply whether someone makes a profit or suffers a financial loss. What matters more is the mentality behind the desire to become wealthy in an instant. When wealth is perceived as something that can be obtained quickly, the processes that are meant to shape a person—learning, working, experiencing failure, developing skills, understanding risk, and growing—can begin to seem unnecessary.
This is where the title “Victim of Trading” gains its deeper meaning. The word victim does not necessarily refer to someone who loses money in a single transaction. A victim may be someone who gradually loses control over themselves: losing rational judgment, patience, the ability to accept reality, and even the life they had previously built.
A person who initially lives a financially comfortable life may become trapped in the desire to have more, eventually risking what they already possess and losing everything. Someone who once lived an ordinary life may enter this world hoping to improve their circumstances, only to find themselves falling deeper into financial difficulty. And for someone who is already in financial distress, the desire to “become rich overnight” can turn into a trap that pushes their life even further away from stability.
Thus, the work presents a harsh irony: the desire to escape poverty through instant wealth can instead create an even deeper form of poverty. Not merely material poverty, but poverty in the ability to control desire and confront reality.
Visual Language as a Space of Chaos
Visually, the work does not present its narrative literally. Its forms move, collide, break apart, overlap, and emerge through multiple layers of color. Strong black lines confront red, golden yellow, turquoise, purple, and areas of white. There is no single center that completely dominates the composition.
This visual chaos can be understood as an unstable mental space—a condition in which the desire to obtain something quickly makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish between hope and reality.
However, this interpretation is deliberately not intended to become the only way of reading the work. The forms within the painting do not need to be translated individually into specific symbols. Instead, the strength of the work lies in its ability to open a space for interpretation. Viewers may see transactions, money, human figures, machines, fragmented lives, or something entirely different based on their own experiences.
Through this approach, the painting does not attempt to give the viewer an answer. Instead, it offers a question:
What are we really chasing when we want to become wealthy quickly?
