Black or White is a modern painting that invites viewers to enter a realm of thought closely connected to human life: how we see, understand, and evaluate an issue. In everyday life, people often encounter situations that appear to demand simple choices—right or wrong, agree or disagree, black or white. However, reality is not always that simple. A single issue can be viewed from many different angles, and each person may respond differently based on their experiences, knowledge, background, values, and understanding of a particular situation. This work does not seek to determine which perspective is the most correct. Instead, it creates space for viewers to recognize that differences in perception do not necessarily mean that one side must be wrong.

In the painter’s interpretation, differences in perspective are a natural part of human life. When two people observe the same issue, they may reach different conclusions because they do not share the same experiences. What appears clear to one person may reveal another side to someone viewing it from a different angle. In certain situations, even two opposing viewpoints may each have their own basis of truth. The issue is not always about who is right and who is wrong, but about being willing to understand that reality can be viewed in more than one way.

The visual composition of this work presents black and white areas that flow into one another through curved and dynamic forms. Their meeting suggests both difference and an inseparable connection. However, these forms do not need to be understood as symbols with one fixed meaning. Instead, the simplicity of black and white gives viewers broad space to create their own visual experience. For some, the meeting of these two colors may feel like a conflict; for others, it may appear as a balance, a form of diversity, or two different ways of understanding the same thing. This is where the work gains its strength—it does not force the eye to see in only one way.

Black or White also reflects on the human tendency to simplify issues in order to make them easier to understand. Assigning labels often feels more comfortable than trying to comprehend the complexity behind a situation. Yet life is filled with areas that exist between these two extremes. Some decisions are neither entirely right nor entirely wrong. Some actions may be understandable from one perspective but questionable from another. This awareness does not mean abandoning principles or truth. Rather, it teaches humility when judging something we may not fully understand.

Ultimately, this work encourages us not to rush to judgment simply because someone sees the world differently. Different perspectives do not always need to be opposed; sometimes, they broaden our understanding of an issue. What we consider black from where we stand may have aspects that remain unseen from our position, while something that appears white to us may reveal greater complexity when examined more closely. For this reason, Black or White does not provide an answer about which side should be chosen. Instead, it leaves the question to each viewer: when we see something as black or white, have we truly seen the whole picture, or are we only seeing it from where we stand?
