“Not a white flag” is a statement about persistence—the quiet but uncompromising decision to continue when circumstances seem to demand retreat.
The work was born from a simple conviction: as long as we refuse to surrender, we have not truly lost. Defeat becomes absolute only when the will to continue has been abandoned. There may be exhaustion, setbacks, uncertainty, disappointment, and moments when the path ahead appears impossible. Yet none of these necessarily marks the end.
The painting does not attempt to present resilience as something heroic or perfectly ordered. Its visual language is deliberately restless. Layers of color, fragmented marks, crossing lines, repeated forms, and contrasting gestures create a field that feels alive with movement and resistance. Amid this apparent disorder, the composition suggests an ongoing struggle—not a conclusion.
The title itself carries an important contradiction. Something may resemble a signal, a boundary, or even a declaration of defeat, yet it is Not a white flag. The work refuses to allow its visual elements to settle into a single, predetermined meaning. Instead, it leaves the viewer with a psychological space in which persistence can be understood through personal experience.
Perhaps surrender is not always the moment when we stop physically moving. Sometimes it happens much earlier—when we internally decide that there is no longer any reason to try.
That is why continuing matters.
To continue does not necessarily mean winning. It means preserving the possibility of another attempt, another decision, another direction. Failure can still become experience. A setback can still become knowledge. A difficult moment can still become part of a larger journey.
“Not a white flag” therefore speaks less about victory than about the refusal to declare the story finished.
Because while there is still the willingness to move forward, the ending has not yet been written.
And this is not a flag of surrender.
