What may appear as a journey, burden, obstacle, movement, or even emptiness to one person may carry an entirely different meaning for another. In the artist’s view, the greater the achievement, the greater the price that may have been paid for it. Someone who has reached the top is often seen only at the point of arrival, while the journey that led there remains hidden from view. We do not always see the long nights they endured, the difficult decisions they had to make, the opportunities they had to let go of, the repeated failures they faced, or the doubts that emerged again and again. For this reason, judging someone’s success solely by its final outcome can make us forget that every achievement has a story before it becomes an achievement. Behind something that may appear simple in the eyes of others, there may be an extraordinarily long and dramatic struggle.
